Normal Human Neonatal Epidermal Keratinocytes

Description: Melanocytes are melanin-producing neural crest-derived cells located in the bottom layer (the stratum basale) of the skin's epidermis, the middle layer of the eye (the uvea), the inner ear, vaginal epithelium, meninges, bones, and heart. Melanocytes represent 5-10% of the cells in the epidermis and are specialized in the production of melanin. This protein is responsible for the pigmentation of the skin, hair and eyes and exerts a protective effect on adjacent cells by shielding them from the harmful effects of UV radiation.
Human Epidermal Melanocytes (HEMs-j) from Creative Bioarray are isolated from the healthy human foreskin tissue. The cells are cryopreserved at Passage 2, with each vial containing at least 0.5 x 10^6 cells. Human Epidermal Melanocytes (HEMs-j) are negative for HIV-1, HBV, HCV, mycoplasma, bacteria, yeast and fungi. HEMs-j are guaranteed for further at least 15 population doublings under the conditions provided by Creative Bioarray. Repeated freezing and thawing of cells is not recommended.

Description: Creative Bioarray's normal Human Epidermal Keratinocytes (HEK), when grown in Creative Bioarray's LIDer K Medium, provide an ideal serum-free culture model, for the study of wound healing, toxicology or epithelial biology. When in need of multiple keratinocyte cell lots, our HEK, 10-donor pool offers a wide range of donor demographics for research at an economical price. All HEK are quality tested in LIDer K Medium to ensure optimal serum-free growth over a period of at least 15 population doublings at rates equal to or greater than serum-supplemented medium. Our HEK need not be exposed to antimicrobials or phenol red when cultured in LIDer medium; an advantage since these supplements can cause cell stress and "masking effects" that may negatively impact experimental result.
