Alcoholic Gastric Ulcer Model

Gastric ulcer is a common gastrointestinal disorder that affects millions of people worldwide. To evaluate the anti-gastric ulcer activity of potential drug candidates, numerous rodent models have been developed. At Creative Bioarray, we provide an alcoholic gastric ulcer model that is induced in rats. Our models are designed to mimic the pathophysiology of gastric ulcers in humans, and we provide highly accurate and reproducible results to our clients.

Alcohol, as a potential risk factor for gastric ulcer development, can penetrate the gastric mucosa by solubilizing the protective mucous layer. This exposure subjects the mucosa to the proteolytic and hydrolytic actions of hydrochloric acid and pepsin, ultimately leading to membrane damage. Furthermore, alcohol stimulates acid secretion, disrupts vascular endothelium to reduce blood flow, and triggers the release of superoxide anion, thereby enhancing oxidative stress within the tissues.
