These cells were thought to be "established from the malignant urinary bladder carcinoma of a 82-year-old Caucasian woman (stage pTa G1-G2) in 1992"; same donor as for cell line SBC-7; however, DNA fingerprinting and cytogenetic analysis at the Creative Bioarray established unequivocally that this cell line must be considered de facto a subclone of HELA

What is the growth condition of the cells?

The cells are grown in suspension as aggregates and only the cells in the aggregates are viable, but cell viability cannot be estimated and the general medium contains a large amount of cellular debris.
