Description
Spontaneously transformed cells from a female patient with neuroblastoma. The tumour was derived from a bone marrow metastasis and is tumourigenic in nude mice. Used in the study of MIBG uptake in the diagnosis and treatment of neuroblastoma. MIBG is a derivative of the antihypertensive agent guanethidine and is used as a radiopharmaceutical. SK-N-DZ is characterised by low saturable kinetics and predominant linear pattern of uptake of MIBG, with a poor ability to maintain high intracellular levels of the drug.

What happens to the cells after bacterial contamination during the cell culture process?
When observed at high magnification with an ordinary inverted microscope, a large number of granules are visible in the cytoplasm; the cells grow slowly and gradually become round and fall off.
