ActoFactor™ Recombinant Mouse Midkine
- Specification
Cat.No.
CSC-CTK0787
Description
Midkine (MK) is the product of a retinoic acid responsive gene, MK, and is a member of a family of heparin binding factors. It contains 121 amino acid residues including 10 conserved cysteine residues, all of which appear to be disulphide linked. Midkine is expressed during embryogenesis, showing an expression pattern that suggests functions in neurogenesis, cell migration, secondary organogenetic induction, and mesoderm-epithelial interaction. The widespread downregulation of MK in the adult human is reverted in a number of cancers, in which polypeptides are able to act as both transforming growth factors and promoters of angiogenesis. Midkine (MK), induces chemotaxis of human neutrophils and was found to trigger mobilization of intracellular calcium of these cells. Midkine induces histamine release from rat peritoneal mast cells with a rapid response in a dose-dependent manner. Midkine is also a potent stimulator of collagen and glycosaminoglycan synthesis. Recombinant murine Midkine is a 13.4 kDa protein containing 123 amino acid residues including five intra-molecular disulfide bonds.

Product Overview
Mouse Mdk expressed in E.coli
Molecular Mass
13.4 kDa
Size
CAT# CSC-CTK0787-20 (20 μg); CAT# CSC-CTK0787-100 (100 μg)
Expression System
E.coli
Purity
Greater than 98% as determined by SDS-PAGE and HPLC analysis.
Activity
Determined by its ability to chemoattract human neutrophils using a concentration range of 10- 100 ng/ml.
Endotoxin Level
Less than 1 EU/μg.
Formulation
Sterile-filtered through a 0.2 micron filter and lyophilized from 0.4x PBS (pH 7.4).
Reconstitution
Please centrifuge product briefly before opening the vial. The lyophilized protein should be reconstituted in sterile, ultra-pure water to a concentration of 0.1-1.0 mg/ml. This solution can then be diluted into other aqueous buffers and stored at -20°C for future use.
Storage & Stability
The lyophilized powder, though stable at room temperature for up to 3 weeks, is best stored desiccated at -20°C. Reconstituted protein should be stored long-term in undiluted working aliquots at -20°C. For long-term storage it is recommended to add a carrier protein (0.1% HSA or BSA). Avoid repeated freeze / thaw cycles.
