ActoFactor™ Recombinant Human Prolactin
- Specification
Cat.No.
CSC-CTK0101
Description
Prolactin is a lactogenic hormone secreted by the adenohypophysis. Besides its major action on lactation, in some species prolactin exerts effects on reproduction, maternal behavior, fat metabolism, immunomodulation and osmoregulation. Prolactin has also been shown to have cytokine-like activities and to have important immunoregulatory activities. It contributes to the development of lymphoid tissues and the maintenance of physiological immune function and also modulates a variety of T-cell immune responses. Prolactin has been reported to activate cellular proliferation in nonreproductive tissue, such as liver, spleen and thymus. It induces significant proliferation in aortic smooth muscle cells and also enhances proliferation of these cells induced by PDGF. Prolactin also appears to be directly mitogenic for pancreatic beta cells as well as cultured astrocytes. Recombinant human Prolactin produced in E. coli is a single, non- glycosylated polypeptide chain of 200 amino acids and a molecular mass of 23,007 Dalton.
Species
Human
Product Overview
Human PRL expressed in E.coli
Molecular Mass
23 kDa
Size
CAT# CSC-CTK0101-50 (50 μg); CAT# CSC-CTK0101-250 (250 μg)
Expression System
E.coli
Purity
Greater than 95% as determined by SDS-PAGE and SEC-HPLC analysis.
Activity
Prolactin is fully biologically active when compared to a standard. The ED50, as determined by the dose-dependent stimulation of the proliferation of rat lymphoma Nb2-11, was found to be 1.5 ×10^7 units/mg.
Endotoxin Level
Less than 1 EU/μg.
Formulation
Sterile-filtered, white, lyophilized (freeze-dried) powder. Recombinant Prolactin was lyophilized from a concentrated (1 mg/ml) solution with 10 mM sodium phosphate buffer (pH 8) and 50 mM NaCl.
Reconstitution
Please centrifuge product briefly before opening vial. The lyophilized protein should be reconstituted in sterile, ultra-pure water to a concentration of 0.1 - 1.0 mg/ml. This solution can then be diluted into other aqueous buffers and stored at -20°C for future use.
Storage & Stability
The lyophilized protein, though stable at room temperature for up to 3 weeks, is best stored desiccated at -20°C. Reconstituted rHu Prolactin should be used immediately or stored long-term in undiluted working aliquots at -20°C. For long-term storage it is recommended to add a carrier protein (0.1% HSA or BSA). Avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles.
