Description

established from the Pleural effusion of a 31-year-old man with AIDS-related primary effusion lymphoma (PEL); cells are reported to be positive for human herpesvirus type 8 (HHV-8) and Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) while negative for human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and human T-cell leukemia virus I/II (HTLV-I/II); a transmission of EBV during handling of the cells is possible and the cell line is thus categorized biosafety level 2.
