What cells cause mesothelioma?

Mesothelioma is a cancer arising from the transformation of mesothelial cells lining the thoracic (pleura) or the abdominal (peritoneum) cavities, and more rarely from transformed mesothelial cells of pericardium or tunica vaginalis testis.
